LAHORE (Dunya News) – The fire that broke out in the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) building in Lahore on Sunday has been brought under control after hectic efforts. However, the rescue teams are still present at the sight as a precautionary measure. The telecommunication services suspended in affected areas of Lahore are gradually being restored.
Work is underway to restore the PTCL and internet service that have been suspended in the city for past three days. Moreover, the emergency help lines that were disrupted have also been restored temporarily. The consumers have also faced issues at ATM links.
According to PTCL authorities, work is underway in order to restore the service by connecting the affected telephone lines with an alternative Garden Town Exchange. Moreover, it is expected that the reconstruction of the damaged PTCL building will also begin in the next few days. However, the telecommunication devices will be reinstalled in the four damaged floors on the basis of expert opinions.
The fire erupted in PTCL exchange building situated at the Egerton Road in Lahore on early Sunday morning which quickly spread to other areas of the 8-floor building. Four floors of the office were completely burnt down. According to PTCL authorities, 45000 telephone lines and 25000 internet connections were affected because of the incident. As a result, telecommunication services were suspended
Firefighters and rescue teams from all over the city reached the spot and brought the fire under control after several efforts of three hours. However, despite several efforts by the firefighters and rescue team, the fire again erupted resulting in completely damaging the four floors of the office.
