Summary Chaudhry Nisar himself clearly requested the army to play its role, the PTI Vice Chairman said.

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday said that his party has sought explanation from the government over contradictory remarks by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar regarding army’s mediation in political crisis.

“It was the government that asked army to play its role in the current crisis,” Qureshi told media.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister and Interior Minister told parliament that request for military help had come from the camps of PTI chief Imran Khan and PAT chairman Tahirul Qadri.

Expressing shock over this, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said “Chaudhry Nisar himself clearly requested the army to play its role.”

He said since day one we are seeing that if the government moves a step ahead then it retracts by moving backward two steps.

Qureshi said PTI leadership responded in a constructive spirit and during meeting with Army Chief General Raheel Sharif last night, Imran Khan remained firm over his stance regarding Prime Minister’s resignation.

The PTI leader lamented that issues should be resolved through dialogue in a political manner.  Progress cannot be made until government gives any explanation on this, he added.

Pakistan has been gripped by mass rallies for more than two weeks, with protesters led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan and cleric Tahir ul-Qadri camped outside parliament demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resign.

Attempts to resolve the crisis through talks have failed, creating a deadlock and raising the specter of violence as thousands of increasingly impatient activists, some armed with sticks, massed in the heart of Islamabad despite intense heat.
