Ifthikhar Chaudhry sends Imran Khan Rs.20 billion defamation notice for hurling accusations
If Imran Khan does not withdraw his accusations in 15 days then a case will be filed against him
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – According to the plaintiff’s lawyer, former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Ifthikhar Chaudhry has sent a defamation notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan amounting to Rs.20 billion, adding that if Khan did not apologize and retract his statement within 15 days then a case will be filed against him.
According to the defamation notice sent to Khan by the plaintiff’s lawyer, the judiciary had decided against being part of the electoral process in 2009, however, former Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Fakhrudin G Ibrahim requested via letter to the judiciary to participate in the process, after which the judiciary decided to take part in the electoral process only this once.
According to a statement, Khan won from several constituencies but he has only challenged the electoral process in those constituencies from where he has lost.
In the defamation notice Chaudhry stated that his services for Pakistan have been recognized at an international level, however, Khan started leveling accusations at him after the former CJP’s retirement, adding that Khan accused the plaintiff of rigging the elections in order to help only one particular political party to win the elections.
Former CJP further reiterated in the notice that he had devoted his entire life serving the country according to law and constitution so that he can live in a safe country where everyone’s respect is safeguarded, adding that Khan’s way of doing things has done irreparable damage to the nation.
Chaudhry stated that mundane wealth cannot be a substitute for the respect ‘gifted by Allah Almighty’ to him so in order to exonerate himself from the accusations leveled against him, he has decided to file a case against Imran Khan, adding that he has sent a defamation notice claiming damages of Rs.15 billion for damage to reputation and Rs.5 billion for mental distress.
The notice further demands an apology and public retraction of statement by Khan and if he does not do it then a case will be filed against him.
