KPK LG polls: PTI govt holds trial voting under biometric system

Summary PTI chief Imran Khan said he would ensure transparency in upcoming LG polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is conducting a trial voting under new biometric system in an effort to hold free and fair local government elections across the province.

The demo polling is arranged in a neighborhood and village council of Peshawar.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa election commission, the polling is being held at village council Badhai, ward Wadpagga and neighborhood council Sir Buland Pura in Peshawar.

The thumb impression and national identity card of voters will be verified through biometric machine after which they would be sent in polling booth to cast their vote.

The polling that started at 8AM will continue till 5PM today.

The chief election commissioner of Pakistan Justice Nasirul Mulk will also visit the polling stations.

It is also learnt that NADRA officials were also monitoring the biometric system along with the election commission officials.
