Summary Khurram Shahzad secured 23, 973 votes and Khawaj Liaquat of PML-N could get only 18, 256 votes.
FAISALABAD (Dunya News) - According to unofficial results.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Khurram Shahzad defeated ruling party’s candidate Khawaja Liaquat in PP-72 by-election.
This is the first victory of the PTI in the PML-N’s stronghold Faisalabad where the ruling party has lost the seat that it has been winning for last 20 years.
The excited supports of PTI flocked the streets in different areas of the city and celebrated the victory.
They chanted slogans in favour of PTI and its chief Imran Khan and condemned the policies of PML-N government.
The seat was vacated due to fake degree of PML-N’s MPA Khawaja Muhammad Islam.
Voting continued in a peaceful atmosphere at 125 polling stations while losing candidate Khawaja Liaquat also accepted unofficial results of polls.
PML-N had clean sweep in Punjab in general elections on May 11 and later in by-elections on August 22 but this time it has been defeated by its main rival party in the constituency that comprises areas of Ghanta Ghar in the centre of the city.
