Summary Polling will be held at stations where women were not allowed to cast vote by local elders.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Dost Muhammad Khan Monday remarked that disenfranchising the women during by-polls in Nowshera and Lakki Murrawat was tantamount to robbing the rights of women.

He gave these remarks during the course of hearing of a suo motu notice of barring women voters in by-polls, say media reports.

CJ Peshawar High Court had taken suo motu notice on this count.

Disallowing the women from casting their votes is unpardonable offence and PHC had taken notice of it on media reports, he observed.

Some people exploit women in the name of traditions to in order to further their vested interests, he said.

“Those who marginalize the women in terms of status should change their mindset now,” he said.

He suggested that government should enact a law under which the polls in the constituencies should be considered null and void, where the women are not allowed to cast their votes.

On Sunday, JUI-F also had demanded re-polling on 90 stations in NA-27 on the same ground.

Talking to media in Islamabad, JUI-F spokesperson Jan Achakzai said that women voters were barred from voting on more than 90 polling stations in by-elections, while small some proxy votes were also polled after the agreement with local elders.
