RAWALPINDI: General Bismillah Mohammadi Defence Minister of Afghanistan, Monday, thanked Pakistani government for releasing Afghan Taliban which would play a very positive role in the peace process.
The visiting Afghan Minister called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kiyani here at General Headquarters.
After his arrival a cordial meeting was held in the atmosphere of positivism.
According to the sources, the Afghan Defence Minister appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism and sacrifices rendered by the nation.
He condoled with the hosts over the grieved families. The sources said that both sides agreed that security of both the countries is inextricably linked with each other. Extremists are our common enemies and our cooperation will defeat them.
There is a growing realization that Pakistan holds centrality in peace efforts in Afghanistan as both countries share common culture, history, border and destiny.
COAS assured the visiting dignitary that we fully support Afghan owned and lead peace process as a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is in the best interest of both the countries.
Cross border attacks from Afghanistan into Pakistan were also discussed. It was agreed to enhance the border coordination mechanism.
General Bismillah Mohammadi, is a credible voice in Afghan Political Leadership as he has been the COAS of Afghan Army and then Interior Minister and now he is the Defence Minister.
