According to the explanation, the footage in question was actually taken from President Putin’s media interaction following the Russian Geographical Society’s Board of Trustees meeting on October 23.

However, during that conversation, “the President did not mention Pakistan or Afghanistan at all.”
The embassy emphasised that Russia supports a political and diplomatic resolution of differences between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “Russia considers both countries its friends and encourages them to strengthen dialogue, particularly in counterterrorism cooperation and regional security,” the statement said.
Pakistan has always been Russia's partner in Asia, Putin tells PM Shehbaz
The clarification comes after a video falsely attributed to Putin went viral on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), claiming he had made statements about Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The embassy further noted that the audio attached to the clip was a fabricated Persian-language voice-over, falsely translating the Russian President’s remarks to make it appear as if he had declared full support for Afghanistan against Pakistan.
