Naseeruddin Shah faces backlash for exposing the secular myth of India

(Web-Desk)-Naseeruddin Shah faces backlash from right wing Hindu groups in India. According to media reports the actor faces extreme criticism after he expressed anger and resentment over the lynching incident, killing of a policeman in Bulandshahr.

Shah is a prominent Bollywood figure who has won numerous awards in his career, including three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards was barred from delivering a key note address in Ajmer Lit Festival by enraged workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).They stormed in the festival, chanting slogans, throwing ink and burning the actor’s posters demanding an apology for his previous comments.

Earlier in an interview with Karwan-e-Mohabbat India, the actor expressed anger over mob violence and feared for the lives of his children brought up in a liberal household with no particular affiliation with any religion, "I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks,  Are you a Hindu or a Muslim?  they will have no answer. It worries me that I don t see the situation improving anytime soon" he said.

“There is complete impunity for those who take law into their own hands. In many areas we are witnessing that the death of a cow is more significance than that of a police officer,” he added.

Adding fire to the furor, UP Navnirman Sena chief called him a traitor and even booked an August 14 flight for Shah so that he could move to Pakistan for safety, "If Naseeruddin Shah feels scared in India, he can go to Pakistan, If anybody else feels scared, then we can book tickets for them to Pakistan, Jani added.

At the end of the festival the actor expressed amusement over being labelled as a traitor, "What I said earlier was as a worried Indian. What did I say this time that I am being termed as a traitor? I am expressing concerns about the country I love, the country that is my home. How is that a crime?”, he asserted.
