(WebDesk) - Google doodle pays tribute to the great legendry actress of South Asia who still is considered an epitome of poise, beauty and charisma, the enthralling and magnificent actress of yesteryears, Meena Kumari on her 85th birth anniversary. She is being remembered as a courtesan, the role she played in Pakeezah. The Google Doodle shows the superstar of 60s in a red saree with her signature expression.

One of the undisputedly iconic actress of bollywood, Meena Kumari was born in a family of artists but in a poverty-stricken environment as ‘Mahjabeen Bano’. She was only 6 when dazzled the screen with her debut in film industry.

Generally known as ‘Tragedy Queen’, the mesmerizing beauty ‘Meena Kumari’ had won the hearts of her fans with outstanding performance in humorous roles in movies like ‘Miss Marray’, ‘Shararat’ and ‘Kohinoor’.

The iconic actress has inspired generations with her memorable performances in movies like ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Pakeeza’, ‘Baiju Bawra’, ‘Yahudi’, "Bahu Begam , among others. In her career spanning 30 years, she acted in over 90 movies. She symbolised love and loneliness on screen.

Meena Kumari was not just a talented actress but a poet too. She wrote under the pseudonym ‘Naaz’. ‘Tanha Chand’, a collection of her poems was published after her death in 1972. The book was compiled by famous writer Gulzar.

The much loved and appreciated queen of the bollywood film industry, Meena Kumari was died at shockingly young and tantalizingly seductive age of 38 it appears that she lived a life of 90 of liver failure due to the over consumption of alcohol.

She passed away just weeks after the release of her much loved, appreciated and a grand success movie, ‘Pakeeza’. Even today, the name Meena Kumari evokes so many things – melodrama, tragedy, pain, loneliness, misfortune, heartbreak and adversity.
