An Afghan robbery gang member was arrested injured after a police encounter in Islamabad’s Golra area, while his armed accomplices escaped and a search operation continues.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – An alleged member of an Afghan robbery gang was arrested in injured condition following a police encounter in the federal capital, Islamabad Police said on Monday.
According to a police spokesperson, the encounter took place within the jurisdiction of Golra police station when officers attempted to stop suspicious individuals during routine checkpoint checking. Three armed robbers riding a motorcycle tried to flee the scene.
Police personnel bravely chased the suspects, who opened direct fire upon seeing the police party. However, the officers remained unharmed due to precautionary measures and the use of bulletproof jackets.
During the exchange of fire, one suspect was injured by shots fired by his own accomplices while attempting to escape and fell to the ground. He was arrested in injured condition and later identified as Abdul Ahad, the ringleader of the gang.
Police said Abdul Ahad is an Afghan national wanted in multiple cases of robbery, street crime, and other serious offences in Islamabad. The Afghan gang had been involved in looting pedestrians and motorcyclists at gunpoint in areas including Tarnol, Sangjani, and Golra.
A motorcycle and a pistol with ammunition used in the crimes were recovered from the arrested suspect. His accomplices managed to escape under cover of darkness, and a search operation is underway to arrest them.
