Another private torture cell of police unearthed in Lahore

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Police culture has continued to prevail in Punjab despite funds worth millions as another torture cell set up privately by the police inside a factory in Lahore unearthed.
According to Dunya News, Badamibagh police arrested a matric student on Saturday and shifted him to private torture cell. The torture cell was made inside a factory.
On information, the area residents staged a protest demonstration against police in front of the police station and later recovered the youth detained by the police at the private torture cell.
CCPO BA Nasir took notice and ordered an inquiry into the incident. He directed to take strict departmental action against those involved.
He said that free and fair investigation into the incident is underway and SSP Operations Mustansir Feroz has been appointed Inquiry Officer, adding that the complete report of the incident would be submitted within 24 hours.
In January 2017, around 30 torture cells of police made privately at different places in Lahore had been unearthed.
According to a report, the suspects had been subjected to torture at these cells on the pressure of powerful people. The criminals had also been threatened to be killed in fake encounters if their relatives failed to give ransom.

A report by an intelligence agency stating that such cells were portraying negative image of police had been sent to then Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif.
It was also mentioned that CIA, anti-car lifting and some police stations had formed illegal torture cells where the officers take the detainees without filing case.
