BANGALURU (Web Desk) – A 22-year-old call centre employee was raped by two men inside a minibus in Bangaluru sparking fears of women security in the country.

The woman was on her way to home after the shift end and was waiting for an autorickshaw when the bus approached her and offered a ride.

The woman boarded the bus after which the driver and conductor who were in an intoxicated state took her to an isolated place and raped her on knifepoint.

They then drove her to a place nearby to her resident and warned her of serious consequences if she informed the police.

The men also took her mobile phone and SIM so she can’t contact anyone.

The victim later contacted police and told them the vehicle registration number which helped the officials to catch the suspects Suneel Omkarappa (23) and Yogesh Malleshappa (27) who confessed to the crime.

The fatal gang rape of a young student on a bus in Delhi in 2012 led to an outpouring of anger over frightening levels of violence against women.

India recorded 36,735 rape cases in 2014, with 2,096 of them in Delhi.

Experts say those figures likely under-represent the true scale of the crimes.
