US: 15-year-old girl murdered as part of 'satan worship' ritual
The girl's body was dismembered and an upside-down Christian cross was carved on her stomach.
HOUSTON (Web Desk) - Two teenage boys have been charged in the US with rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl as part of ‘selling soul to devil’ ritual.
Jose E Reyes, 17, and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused of the killing of Corriann Cervantes.
Prosecutors in Texas stated that the teenagers believed they were making a deal with satan when they killed the girl.
The girl’s body was found completely dismembered and according to police, an upside-down Christian cross was carved on her stomach.
Investigations reveal that the boys lured the girl into a vacant apartment and assaulted her sexually before killing her.
Harris County prosecutor John Jordan said the younger suspect had heard Reyes claim he had sold his soul to the satan and the 16-year-old wanted to do the same.
He further said that the juvenile was made to believe he would be initiating the process of selling the soul to the devil while killing this girl.
"What happened in that vacant apartment was sadistic. What will eventually happen in the courtroom will be justice" said the prosecutor.
According to the reports, 17-year-old Reyes had confessed to the crime to a family member who in panic called the police.
Jose Reyes, who was arrested Sunday, briefly appeared in court on Tuesday reportedly with a ‘sickening smile’.
The defense counsel, Jerald Graber did not want to comment on the case saying he had just been appointed by the court and knew only few of the details related to the charges.
