Special Doraemon-themed plane unveiled in Tokyo
The special plane will be in service between Sept 22 and the end of March next year.
TOKYO (Web Desk) — Japan Airlines unveiled a special aircraft adorned with Doraemon graphics in Tokyo on Wednesday for use in flights between Japan and China.
Doraemon is the cat-like robot in the famous Japanese manga series, which is tremendously popular among all age groups in China.
JAL would like customers in China to feel connected to the airline and Japan through its Doraemon-painted aircraft, events, a gift campaign, and such, and boost demand on routes between Japan and China. The airline will also challenge itself to assist in further increasing Chinese visitors to Japan through various measures ahead of high demand periods such as Chinese National Day and Chinese New Year.
The Doraemon character painted on the aircraft has been designed specifically for JAL. Drinks will be served onboard in special Doraemon paper cups and original post cards will also be available.
Speaking at a presentation event in Ota Ward, JAL President Yoshiharu Ueki voiced hopes the Doraemon jet will be a chance for Chinese people to get to know the airline.
The special plane will be in service between September 22 and the end of March next year mainly on the route connecting Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, and Shanghai.
Its first flight departed Thursday morning between Tokyo International Airport at Haneda and Shanghai.
