TEHRAN (Web Desk) - Following the announcement of a ceasefire by the President of the United States, Iran has declared that it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz for all vessels for a period of two weeks.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a statement approved by the country’s Supreme National Security Council, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their tireless efforts in bringing an end to the conflict in the region.
Araghchi stated that Iran accepted the United States’ request for negotiations after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s appeal and a proposed 15-point plan. He added that U.S. President Donald Trump has also agreed in principle to a general framework based on Iran’s 10-point proposals.
He further noted that, under this understanding, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has decided that if attacks against Iran are halted, its armed forces will also cease defensive operations.
Additionally, Araghchi said that, in coordination with the Iranian military, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be provided for two weeks, subject to certain technical conditions.
