ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a six-day official visit to China tomorrow to participate in the Council of Heads of State Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), taking place in Tianjin.
During his stay, the prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, where wide-ranging discussions on Pakistan-China relations are expected. He will also attend the military parade in Beijing, held to mark the 80th anniversary of the World’s Anti-Fascist War, alongside President Xi and other international leaders.
Shehbaz Sharif’s itinerary includes meetings with prominent Chinese business figures and corporate executives to strengthen trade, investment, and economic cooperation. He will further address the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference in Beijing, aimed at promoting new opportunities under Phase-II of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
High-level engagements
The Pakistani premier will also meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit next week. According to diplomatic sources, the agenda covers bilateral ties between Pakistan and Russia, consultations on regional security, and broader international developments.
Alongside talks with Russian and Chinese leaders, Shehbaz Sharif will engage with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, and several other heads of state attending the summit, underlining Pakistan’s active participation in high-level exchanges.
SCO participation
The SCO Summit brings together leaders of member states for consultations on political, economic, and security matters. Pakistan’s participation highlights the importance it attaches to the organisation as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and regional integration.
The prime minister’s engagements during the summit are expected to deepen Pakistan’s All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China, reaffirm support on issues of core national interest, and maintain close communication on pressing regional and global challenges.
Pakistan has received messages of condolence and solidarity from Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia over the recent flood losses in the country. These gestures, along with the upcoming meetings, reflect the broader context of Pakistan’s diplomatic activity in the region.
