(Web Desk) - India’s continued water aggression has raised latest concerns as large volumes of water were released into the Jhelum River from Indian-occupied Kashmir.

This has posed a serious threat to several areas in Azad Kashmir

According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Kashmir, the water released from across the Line of Control (LoC) has entered Pakistani territory through the Chakothi sector, significantly increasing the flow of the Jhelum River.

The SDMA reported that the water surge has now reached Muzaffarabad, where water levels in the Jhelum River have begun rising rapidly. Continuous monitoring of the river’s flow is underway, especially from Chakothi down to Mangla.

The authority warned that rising water levels could affect low-lying areas of Muzaffarabad, Hattian Bala, and regions downstream toward Mangla. Residents in these areas have been urged to take precautionary measures.

The SDMA has issued a public advisory, requesting citizens to avoid unnecessary movement near rivers and streams, relocate livestock and valuables to safer locations, and ensure that children do not venture near flooded or seasonal waterways.

The development comes amid an already critical situation following India’s release of water into the rivers flowing through Punjab. Overflowing rivers — Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej — have caused widespread devastation, submerging villages and farmlands and displacing thousands of people across affected regions.
