ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Thursday found former Supreme Court judge Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi guilty of misconduct.
The council suggested that Justice Mazahar Naqvi should have been fired before his resignation. The council also sent its opinion to the president.
The SJC amended its Rule 5, after the amendment in the rule, the right to explain the charges was given to the judges.
According to the declaration of the Council, 9 complaints were received against former judge Naqvi.
A decision was issued by the Council on the petition filed against Justice Naqvi. It was declared that Justice (r) Mazahar Naqvi misused his powers and was found guilty of misconduct.
Justice (retd) Naqvi had stepped down from his post following misconduct allegations — and within a day, Justice (retd) Ijazul Ahsan also resigned, raising questions over their untimely departure.
In his resignation letter, Justice Naqvi had said: "[...] in the circumstances which are a matter of public knowledge and to some extent public record, it is no longer possible for me to continue to serve as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Considerations of due process also compel so.”
