Ayodhya verdict: Muslim lawyers express anger over Salim Khan, Javed Akhtar's remarks
NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Counsel representing Muslim side in Ayodhya land case have expressed anger over the statements of Bollywood screen writers, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, that the five acres of land which was ordered by the apex court to be given for construction of a mosque must be used for building schools, colleges and hospitals. The enraged lawyers said that Salim and Javed “do not represent the Muslim community and have no role in the Ayodhya case”. Advocate M R Shamshad said, “Making hospital there will only cover-up the issue. Sunni Board has lots of land in Ayodhya. It should give a patch of land to them (celebrities) to build Babri Masjid Hospital/College.”
Earlier, India’s Supreme Court (SC) had announced verdict in favor of Ram Mandir and directed to allot a separate land of five-acre to Muslims for mosque while pronouncing its judgment in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit.
The decision sent shudders through many in the 200-million-strong Muslim minority who fear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is bent on turning India into a purely Hindu nation.
The ruling over the holy site had been contested for centuries by Hindus and Muslims, which in 1992 sparked some of the deadliest sectarian violence since independence.
