Will achieve 10 million passengers target within a year: Sheikh Rasheed

PR Minister said that increase of 6 mil passengers has been witnessed in the past 9 months.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed expressed to achieve a target of 10 million passengers within a year while saying that Railways’ deficit decreased by Rs4 billion despite former government bought locomotives for Rs50 millions.

Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of Sir Syed Express Train, he expressed that there has been an increase of 6 million passengers in last nine months. He also said that they restored the Sindh railway tracks which were inactive since 1861 and reduced the railways’ deficit with their austerity-oriented and effective measures.

On July 2, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that Pakistan Railways’ deficit has been decreased by Rs4 billion during the fiscal year 2018-19.

Addressing a news conference in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, he said the deficit has been reduced from Rs36.62 billion to Rs32.59 billion.

The minister expressed hope that the railways would be free from the fiscal deficit in the next five years.

Ahmed said 24 new passenger and two freight trains have been launched during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led federal government.
