Sirajul Haq addresses media after attending national security conference in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq while addressing the media on Monday after attending the national security conference in Islamabad said that all mainstream political parties stand together to safeguard the interests of the parliament, democracy and public, Dunya News reported. Sirajul Haq condemned the attack on Parliament and PTV headquarters by anti-government protestors. He said that he is not satisfied with the governance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that the government has not offered any solution which could be agreed upon to solve the political crisis at hand.

He said that the government has, however, offered to form a judicial commission to probe into the election rigging allegations which we do support. If rigging allegations are proved, the Prime Minister must step down from his office, said Haq. We trust the verdict of Supreme Court like any other civilized society does, he claimed. All the political parties stand for the constitution and democracy, he said. If the democracy is derailed, it will be difficult for the country to advance further, added Sirajul Haq.

JI chief Sirajul Haq said that the solution to the problem is in establishing the writ of the constitution and democracy, adding that some people are inviting martial law. Addressing the media, Haq said that whoever is wishing for martial law is trying to push Pakistan Army into a swamp. He said that he had presented a formula of Prime Minister’s resignation to Imran Khan, adding that Jamaat would continue its efforts to get the country out of the crisis. Jamaat chief assured that the country would advance towards progress and democracy.

Denouncing the attack on Parliament, he said that it was one of the saddest incidents in the history of Pakistan. He said that attack on Parliament is equal to attacking democracy. All the political parties agree to abide by the constitution and work together for strengthening democracy in Pakistan, he said. He argued that he is not satisfied with the governance of Nawaz Sharif. Referring to the police torture on journalists, women and children, he said that if blood is shed during any political party’s rule, it must be considered the government’s failure. He urged that the path of dialogue is the best solution to solve political issues.

He lamented that the talks between government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf failed to achieve a breakthrough despite several efforts by the government. The government accepted 5 demands of PTI; however, accepting the 6th demand of Prime Minister’s resignation was not feasible, said Sirajul Haq. He warned that if the democracy is disrupted in Pakistan, it will lead to severe consequences.
