Funeral prayer of MQM worker killed by police torture offered

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Funeral prayer of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-Pakistan) joint organizer Aslam, who succumbed to wounds after police used force and baton-charged demonstrators in order to disperse protesters from outside Sindh CM House, was offered on Thursday.

A large number of important party leaders and citizens attended the funeral prayers of MQM worker Aslam, who was allegedly killed by police torture in Karachi.

On Wednesday, police baton-charged MQM-P workers and fired tear gas to disperse the protesting activists outside the CM House in Karachi.

MQM workers, including women and children, were baton-charged by police officials and pushed in police vehicles to disperse the protestors outside the CM House.

The MQM workers had staged a sit-in protest in front of the Sindh CM House against the Sindh local government act. Due to the sit-in, the traffic system was badly disrupted and the citizens faced severe difficulties.

Talking to media, former MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that their mothers and sisters were tortured yesterday, there has never been a worse time for oppressed nationalities.

He said, “If justice is not done, the lava is boiling and it will erupt and warned of surrounding the CM’s House if Sindh local government law is not withdrawn.”

The former MQM leader went on to say that the cases must be lodged against those who tortured the party workers. He also condemned the brutal torture on MPA Sadaqat Abbasi and other sisters, adding that the Sindh CM has crossed all limits.

PM takes notice

Earlier today, Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken notice of violence by Sindh police against Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) protest.

Prime Minister, in a tweet, said that he has taken notice of violence against peaceful protest against Sindh’s local government law.

The premier further said that he has summoned report from Interior Minister, Sindh Chief Secretary and Inspector General (IG) Police. Will take necessary action against those responsible after receiving these reports, Imran Khan assured.

Sindh CM telephones Ameenul Haq

On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also telephoned Amin-ul-Haque and expressed grief over killing of MQM-P worker during a protest.

Murad Ali Shah, during conversation, said that such incident are not acceptable under any circumstances and assured the MQM-P leader of comprehensive inquiry of the incident.

CM Sindh said that post mortem will reveal the reason behind the death of the worker and a strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the unfortunate incident.

The chief minister, while inviting Amin-ul-Haque to hold talk on the provincial local bodies act, said that all political differences should be solved through talks and other political channels.
