Rao Anwar hasn't escaped abroad, FIA tells SC
The apex court conducted a suo moto hearing of case pertaining to Naqeebullah's assassination.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has on Thursday submitted its report in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan in which it has been told that former Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar has not escaped abroad.
The apex court conducted a suo moto hearing of case pertaining to Naqeebullah Mehsud’s assassination in Karachi and gave a ten-day deadline to the authorities to nab Rao Anwar.
Sindh IG AD Khawaja and Director General (DG) Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) were present during the proceedings.
Intelligence agencies have been directed by the SC to cooperate with Sindh Police to arrest the former SSP. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that the allegation of Naqeeb’s murder is in fact against the state due to the alleged involvement of police official.
The CJP expressed dissatisfaction over the efforts of concerned authorities in detaining the ex-SSP. Justice Saqib Nisar further said that it would be better for Rao Anwar if he surrenders.
Mehsud, a 27-year-old hailing from South Waziristan, was gunned down on January 13 in Shah Latif Town by ‘encounter’ with a police team headed by Rao Anwar, however; preliminary probe suggest that Mehsud was killed in cold blood and had no terror links.
