PML-N secures landslide victory in AJK elections

The PML-N almost wiped out its major rivals.

MUZAFFARABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan Muslim League (N) has emerged as a single largest party in the AJK elections with winning 32 seats in the forty-one members Legislative Assembly.

Polling for the 10th general elections on 41 seats of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly started at 8:00am and concluded at 5:00pm on Friday. AJK Election Commission had made all necessary arrangements to conduct the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.



Special security arrangements were made by deploying more than thirty thousand personnel of Army, Rangers, Frontier Constabulary and Police to maintain law and order.

In the 48-seat Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly, polling was held on 41 direct seats, of which 12 seats of Occupied Kashmir refugees are in Pakistan. Nine of these seats are in Punjab including two seats in Rawalpindi district and one each in Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal and Multan. There are two seats in Sindh (Karachi) and one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar).

All political parties included PPP, PMLN, PTI, MC, AJK PPP, JI, APML and others contested for the legislative assembly elections.

There were 22, 37, 058 voters including 12, 11,842 men and 10, 25,216 women in AJK’s ten districts.


UNOFFICIAL RESULTS


According to the unofficial results announced by AJK Election Commission, Pakistan Muslims League Nawaz has bagged 32 seats. All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference has won three seats while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and and Pakistan Peoples Party have won two seats each.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party got one seat whereas an Independent candidate has also returned to the Legislative Assembly.

PML-N’s Khalid Masood won LA-1 seat in Dadyal (district Mirpur) while PPP president Abdul Majeed managed to secure LA-2 seat in Chakswari. PML-N’s Chaudhry Saeed defeated ex-premier barrister Sultan Mahmood to secure LA-3 seat.

PML-N’s Chaudhry Rukhsar won from Pur Khari’s LA-4 constituency while Col (r) Waqar Noor grabbed LA-5 seat in Barnala. Independent candidate Chaudhry Ali remained victorious in LA-6 Samahni.

Tariq Farooq of the PML-N secured LA-7 seat whereas Malik Nawaz won LA-8 (Kotli) seat.

Former president Sikandar Hayat’s son Sardar Farooq Sikandar managed to win LA-9 (Nakyal). PML-N candidate Raja Naseer won election in LA-10 (Sehnsa), Raja Iqbal secured LA-11 (Charhoi) seat and Raja Nisar bagged LA-12 (Khuiratta) seat.

LA-13 (west Bagh) seat was won by Muslim Conference’s Sardar Attique and PML-N’s Mushtaq Minhas clinched victory in LA-14 (central Bagh).

Sardar Mir Akbar of PML-N won LA-15 (east Bagh) election, Chaudhry Aziz LA-16 (Haveli), Chaudhry Yasin Gulshan LA-17 (Abbaspur) and Sardar Khan Bahadur secured LA-18 (Hajira) seat.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party candidate Sardar Khalid Ibrahim has defeat AJK President’s daughter Farzana Yaqoob in LA-19 Rawlakot.

Sardar Sagheer Chughtai of Muslim Conference clinched LA-20 constituency of Thorar.

Moreover, PML-N candidates including Dr Najib won LA-22 (Palandri), Farooq Tahir LA-22, Shah Ghulam Qadir LA-23, Noreen Arif LA-24 (Muzaffarabad), Chaudhry Shehzad LA-25 (Lachrat), Barrister Iftikhar Gilani LA-26, Raja Abdul Qayyum LA-27 and Farooq Haider LA-28 (Hattian Bala), Dr Mustafa Bashir LA-29 (Leepa), Umar Nasir Dar LA-30, Chaudhry Ismail Gujjar LA-31, Chaudhry Ishaq LA-32, Yasir Rasheed LA-33 (Narowal), Chaudhry Javed LA-34 (Gujrat) and Raja Siddique succeeded in Rawalpindi’s LA-35 constituency.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Ghaffar Lone won LA-36 while PTI’s Dewan Mohiuddin defeated PML-N candidate in LA-37 (Valley 2 Lahore).

PML-N’s Shaukat Shah won LA-38 (Multan seat), Asad Aleem Shah secured LA-39 (Rawalpindi) and Ahmad Raza Qadri grabbed LA-40 (Valley 5 Rawalpindi) seat.

Majid Khan of PTI won LA-41 (Muzaffarbad Valley) seat.


PM FELICITATES ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES


Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has extended his congratulations to the elected representatives and people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the successful conduct of general elections.

In a statement in Islamabad, he said the peaceful elections in AJK are a victory of democratic forces that explicitly reflects the peoples’ faith in democracy.

The Prime Minister said winning or losing is part of elections, but the important thing for a vibrant democracy is the continuity of process.

He expressed the confidence that newly elected representatives of AJK would reinforce their support to the people of occupied Kashmir in their just struggle for independence.

Nawaz Sharif urged the elected representatives to work for the well-being of people.

He said the federal government will extend all possible assistance to the newly elected government of AJK to better serve the people.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan also congratulated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over victory in AJK elections.

Khan also congratulated the winning PTI candidates.
