20 dead in land-sliding, other rain-related incidents in KP, Azad Kashmir
Karakoram Highway is blocked at six different points from Basham to Dasu
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Land-sliding and roof collapse incidents have claimed at least 20 lives in different parts of Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) amid torrential rains, Dunya News reported Saturday.
Several connective roads in district Shangla are shut due to land sliding at different points. Intermittent rains are continuing across the province.
Karakoram Highway is blocked at six different points from Basham to Dasu.
More than 20 houses in northern areas have collapsed until today due to severe rains. In Lower Dir’s Timargrah, five members of a family were trapped and killed as roof came crashing down. Two injured siblings were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
In Bagh’s Ochara village, land-sliding claimed lives of a man and his wife while four daughters were rescued.

Azad Kashmir: Rescuers clear debris that came down after land-sliding
Roof of a house collapsed in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan as a result of heavy rainfall that claimed the lives of two women and five children. A similar incident in the Tangi Shodak area of Charsadda resulted in the casualty of one child and left one woman injured.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), land sliding left woman and two kids dead in Muzaffarabad’s Sirli Sucha area while six houses were destroyed.
Army rescuers reached the site within time to save lives of others.
Six members of a family were reported killed in Kurram Agency in a roof collapse incident. The killed include four children and parents. None could be rescued owing to situation in remote area, far from administration’s operations.
Connection of Kalam with adjoining areas was cut off as result of land-sliding in Mankial area of Swat, resulting in many cars end up stranded in the area.
Lightning claimed a girl’s life in Tehsil Kotli of Azad Kashmir.
Separately, Meteorological Department has forecast rains in Punjab’s capital, Lahore in coming 24 hours. Different areas in Lahore witnessed drizzle last night that turned the weather pleasant.
Spell of rains began last Thursday across the country hitting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan the worst.
By March 14, the death toll was reported around 42 while more than 70 had been injured in different rain-related incidents.
