Politicians surprised as PTI's Shibli Faraz gets 16 votes instead of 7
JUI-F hints at investigating the matter, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was joint candidate of govt, opp.
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Political parties felt surprised on Thursday as the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate for Deputy Chairmanship of Senate Shibli Faraz got 16 votes instead of PTI’s 7. Abdul Ghaffoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) was the joint candidate of the government, JUI-F and the opposition for this seat, Dunya News reported.
It was general perception during the polling that PTI’s candidate would secure only the votes from his party with one additional vote from Jamaat Islami (JI) head Sirajul Haq. However, the result surprised everyone as Shibli Faraz got 16 votes instead of the expected 7.
Abdul Ghaffor Haideri got 74 out of the total 96 votes, 16 votes were secured by Shibli Faraz while 6 of the votes got rejected.
Political parties are still surprised over the extra 11 votes earned by PTI candidate. They opined that though it wouldn’t be possible to detect the dissenters due to secret balloting yet floor-crossing definitely took place and must be investigated.
