PM presides over meeting, decides to expedite work on electoral reforms

Meeting presided over by PM Nawaz decided to resolve CEC appointment issues as soon as possible

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – In a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, it has been decided that the work on electoral reforms will be sped up. The meeting also decided to resolve the issue of Chief Election Commissioner’s (CEC) appointment as soon as possible.

The meeting was held in Islamabad on Tuesday and was attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning and Development Chaudhry Ahsan Iqbal and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid.

Current political situation of the country and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) public gathering in Islamabad that is scheduled to be held on November 30 was brought under discussion on this occasion.

According to Dunya News sources, PM Nawaz Sharif took the above mentioned members of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) into confidence about SAARC Conference. It was also decided that Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) will be provided more aid keeping in view their needs.

The meeting decided to resolve the issue of CEC appointment as soon as possible. It was agreed upon that the contacts with the opposition parties regarding consultation on the appointment of CEC will be expedited. The meeting also agreed to accelerate the work on electoral reforms.
