Musharraf's treason case trial adjourned until September 9 due to political unrest in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –The special court of Islamabad on Tuesday delayed the hearing of former military ruler, Pervez Musharraf’s treason case without any court proceedings in the wake of the ongoing political impasse in Islamabad, Dunya News reported. The special court has delayed the hearing of Musharraf’s treason case until September 9. The prosecution lawyer and the counsel of Pervez Musharraf have been given an official notification regarding the case adjournment.
It is worth mentioning here that the special court of Islamabad is trying former President General (retd) Pervez Mushahrraf under Article 6 of the constitution. All the major roads of Federal Capital leading to Red Zone have been blocked in the backdrop of the sit-in protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Constitution Avenue. The premise of the special court is located opposite the Supreme Court building on the Constitution Avenue where thousands of followers of Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri are currently staging a protest sit-in against the government.
Earlier, on Pervez Musharraf’s counsel Barrister Farogh Nasim’s plea the hearing of Musharraf’s case was adjourned without court proceedings. Farogh Nasim had filed a petition yesterday (Monday) citing that all the roads leading to Red Zone area have been blocked because of the ongoing sit-in protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) outside the parliament house , therefore, not only is reaching the court difficult but also security concerns are involved. Farogh Nasim requested to delay the hearing of the case until at least two months. The court, however, delayed the hearing of Musharraf’s treason case till September 2.
Barrister Farogh Nasim, the counsel of Musharraf had filed a petition citing that physical state of affairs of Islamabad, particularly Red Zone has been precarious for almost two weeks. The petition also stated that an uninterrupted access to the special court was not possible because the entire Constitution Avenue is sealed. Moreover, he explained that apart from issue of physical access, there were security concerns that could pose a life threat in case the mob gets out of control.
