PTI, JI unite over electoral reforms
Both leaders vowed to protect the fledgling democracy in the country.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat Islami (JI) agreed on Saturday over the proposed electoral reforms while determining to protect the democratic system. JI Chief Sirajul Haq said that his party has no intention to detail democracy, Dunya News reported.
PTI’s vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi met JI Chief Sirajul Haq here on Saturday. Both leaders discussed the ongoing political situation.
Addressing the media, Qureshi said that he wants to see democratic institutions strengthen. He said that they won’t let democratic process be sabotaged.
Sirajul Haq said that some powers are creating shadows of doubts under current circumstances. He said that his party has no intention of derailing democracy.
It merits mentioning here that PTI has been contacting the opposition parties to gain support for the proposed electoral reforms. Major parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PMLQ) have already agreed to the proposals made by PTI.
PTI Chief Imran Khan announced ‘charter of demands’ on May 11, demanding electoral reforms. The party demanded the reformation of Election Commission after removal of the current election commission staff.
