World observes International Day of the Girl Child

(Web Desk) - With the International Day of the Girl Child being observed all across the globe today on October 11, not just tech giants like Facebook themselves, but people from all walks of life are highlighting the importance of the day that in the words of activist organisations all around the globe, is a ‘worldwide revolution’
As the result of youth advocacy around the world, 6 years ago in 2011, the United Nations declared October 11 as the ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ to help incite worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential, while highlighting the challenges faced by girls around the world.

“Empowerment of and investment in girls are key in breaking the cycle of discrimination and violence and in promoting and protecting the full and effective enjoyment of their human rights” states the United Nations Resolution 66/170
