Emirates offers laptop 'handlers' to cope with US ban
DUBAI (Web Desk) - Emirates Airlines have adopted counter measures aimed at minismising effects of ban slapped by US and UK which bars passengers from carrying electronic devices from some airports in Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa.
The new service introduced by Emirates will facilitate passengers to use their laptop and tablets until just they board their flights to US.
Emirates travelers will use electronic devices on first part of their journey, and also during transit in Dubai. Passengers are then bound to hand over banned material to security staff moments before boarding US-bound flight.
Administration will prudently pack these devices into boxes, loaded into aircraft load, and will returned to customers after they arrived at their desired US destination.
Sir Tim Clark, President, Emirates Airline said: "Our aim is to ensure compliance with the new rules, while minimising disruption to passenger flow and impact on customer experience. Our new complimentary service enables passengers, particularly those flying for business, to have the flexibility to use their devices until the last possible moment.
New ban is unlikely to affect Emirates business as over 90pc passengers use internet service via smartphones. The rest of devices hardly make 10pc.
The new restrictions will be imposed from March 25.
It may be recalled that United States and Britain banned larger electronic devices from the passenger cabin on flights from some airports in Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa.
American officials warned that extremists are seeking “innovative” ways to attack airliners with smaller explosive devices hidden in consumer electronics bigger than smartphones.
