Time magazine reveals 2016 list of top '100 most influential people'

For the 2016 edition, six notable title recipients landed on the highly-coveted cover slots.
NEW YORK (AFP / Web Desk) - For the 13th year in a row, Time magazine has revealed its annual list of the "100 Most Influential People", ranging from world leaders and local activists to top 40 artists.
Explaining the reasoning behind their picks, Time stated, "The people on the list, each in their own way, have lessons to teach. We can debate those lessons; we don’t have to endorse them or agree with them."
The publication released their picks for the 13th edition of the Time 100 list Thursday, dividing personalities into five categories: pioneers, titans, artists, leaders and icons.
Among the 40 women to be honored were Sania Mirza, Melissa McCarthy, Caitlyn Jenner, Nikki Haley, Ariana Grande, Ronda Rousey, Diana Natalicio -- and the youngest addition, Olympic swimmer, Katie Ledecky.
On the men’s side, Paul Ryan, Aziz Ansari, Pope Francis, Tim Cook, Ricardo Tisci and Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping were among the key figures to make the cut.
The magazine also called out 2016 presidential candidates, naming Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz -- only leaving GOP hopeful John Kasich off the list.
Leonardo DiCaprio, rapper Nicki Minaj and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan are among some of Time magazine’s picks for the top 100 most influential people in the world for 2016.
For the 2016 edition, six notable title recipients landed on the highly-coveted cover slots. They include Nicki Minaj, Zuckerberg and Chan, actress Priyanka Chopra, International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, star and creator of "Hamilton."
