27.5kg cauliflower breaks world record
The previous world record had stood since 1999 and was held by Alan Hattersley of Sheffield.
(Web Desk) - A vast cauliflower - weighing almost 27.5kg - has broken the world record by almost 3kg, the Telegraph reported.
The vegetable was grown by Peter Glazebrook, who already owns four world records for the longest beetroot and parsnip and the heaviest onion and potato.
The record was broken on Easter Monday as seven adjudicators visited his greenhouse in Newark, East Midlands, to inspect the 27.485kg vegetable.
Mr Glazebrook said: "The weighing was conducted at my home because there were no vegetable shows at this time of year.
Mr Glazebrook weighed two cauliflowers on the day, with the first falling short, weighing in at only 23.22kg (51.15lb).
The previous world record had stood since 1999 and was held by Alan Hattersley of Sheffield, whose vegetable weighed 24.6kg - almost 3kg less.
The trimming and weighing was witnessed by two National Vegetable Society judges and five other observers and the foliage alone measured 6ft in diameter
