This is how WhatsApp 'deleting messages' feature works
Instant messaging giant disclosed the update which allows deleting messages within seven minutes
(Web Desk) – WhatsApp has finally rolled out the new, much-needed update for its iPhone and Android users which allows users to delete their messages after seven minutes of sending.
This is how it works:
1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat containing the message you wish to delete.
2. Tap and hold the message > choose Delete from the menu. Optionally, select more messages to delete multiple messages at once.
3. Tap Delete > Delete for Everyone.
WhatsApp told in its FAQs that messages that are successfully deleted for everyone will be replaced with a note saying "This message was deleted" in the recipients chats. So next time if you see a note saying “This message was deleted" in your chat, you should know that someone deleted their message for everyone before you could see it.
Limitations:
- It should be noted that users can only delete messages for everyone for up to seven minutes after sending.
- Once seven minutes have passed, there is no way to delete messages for everyone.
- To delete messages, both sender and receiver must be using the latest version of WhatsApp for Android, iPhone or Windows Phone.
- It is not uncertain that the action will be completed until one is notified by WhatsApp that the message has been deleted.
