20-year-old Jyoti Gupta had represented Indian national team and was seen as future star

(Web Desk) – Indian women’s hockey player Jyoti Gupta was found dead on railway tracks as she appeared before the train and was struck by it, according to initial investigation.

The 20-year-old player was lauded as a future star and had represented the national team at such a young age. She was found dead on Wednesday evening.

Police sources told Indian media that they doubt it is a case of suicide. They defended their insight after inquiring about the accident from the area residents. Train driver of Chandigarh-Jaipur Intercity Express claimed she suddenly appeared before the fast-moving train and was struck before the brakes could be applied completely for stoppage.

Jyoti Gupta died at the spot and it was too late to save her after she was struck by the train, the local SHO said. She had attended a three-month-long national coaching camp at Himachal Pradesh before World Hockey League Semifinals and was to participate in another camp during August.

She had last talked to her family members on that very day. Her mother was informed about the death by an official. Jyoti played as a striker in the team. She left home telling that she wanted to correct the mistakes in her educational degrees by going to Rohtak. Her family is in deep pain after the heavy loss.
