Football: Late Zukanovic strike denies Lazio precious win

Dunya News

Sampdoria played a 1-1 draw against Lazio in the Italian SerieA on Monday.

ROME (AFP) - Bosnian Ervin Zukanovic stole a point for Sampdoria with virtually the last kick of the match in a 1-1 draw at Lazio on Monday.

Earlier, substitute Alessandro Matri looked to have grabbed a match-winner for Lazio, who like Samp have now gone seven games without a win.

On-loan Matri struck 12 minutes from time, heading home Stefan Radu s cross after good work from Felipe Anderson in midfield.

But a crucial deviation from a free-kick off Felipe Anderson s head allowed Zukanovic to score three minutes into time added on at the end of the game.

Lazio, a group of whose fans dumped manure at the club s training centre on Friday in protest at their poor form, moved up one place to 12th with the point, while Samp remain 16th.

Matri s goal came only 12 minutes after the AC Milan loanee entered the fray to replace German Miroslav Klose.

It was a rare moment of quality in a match notable for the two sides  visible fear of losing that made for a dull and drab affair with few chances, particularly in the first period.

Sampdoria had a great chance to take the lead midway through the second half but Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti denied Antonio Cassano one-on-one.

Just before Matri s goal, Samp had another clear chance but Luis Muriel s fierce strike from distance whistled just past the far post.
