Dunya News

WikiLeaks makes new revelations about Pakistani politics during 2008.

In his conversation with US ambassador to Pakistan, Anne Patterson, in March 2008, Amin Fahim gave an impression that he was willing to go along with president Pervez Musharraf and MQM after resigning from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).He said that Asif Ali Zardari wanted a Punjabi prime minister to counter Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif and Ahmed Mukhtar was his first choice. Fahim said that he was told to favour the new prime minister, but he could not do it.He said that Zardari was helping his friends who were with him during his days in jail. He said that Nawaz was willing to take soft stance on reinstatement of judges.Another cable reveals that Saudi ambassador to Pakistan told national security advisor Tariq Aziz that Musharraf should be sidelined and PPP should be defeated. ISI chief Nadeem Taj told Saudi ambassador not to favour Nawaz Sharif. Nadeem also told Zardari not to become prime minister.
