PTI announces one-day mourning in KP following Peshawar blast

PTI has expressed absolute solidarity with Balour family and ANP leadership.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has announced one-day mourning in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the Peshawar blast that martyred at least 20 people including Haroon Bilour, an Awami National Party (ANP) leader.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry termed the attack on ANP’s corner meeting as extremely ‘brutal’ and ‘reprehensible’. He expressed absolute solidarity with Balour family and ANP leadership.

PTI shares the grief of the family and the party, he added.

All the election activities in KP have been suspended by PTI for today. Meanwhile, the party flag of PTI will also fly at half-mast during the one-day mourning.

Besides the martyrs, 30 others were also wounded in the attack in Yaka Toot area of Peshawar on Tuesday night.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives soon after Haroon Bilour arrived in the area to address a corner meeting of his party. He was ANP candidate for the upcoming general elections from provincial assembly constituency PK-78.

The funeral prayers of Bilour will be offered at 5:00pm today in Peshawar after which he will be laid to rest at the Wazir Bagh Graveyard.

He has left behind a widow and two sons to mourn his death.

Barrister Haroon Bilour was son on Bashir Ahmed Bilour, who was also martyred in suicide attack in Qissa Khawani Bazaar in December 2012, and nephew of another ANP stalwart Ghulam Ahmed Bilour.
