ANP leader Haroon Bilour among 20 martyred in Peshawar blast

Emergency was declared at Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital after suicide attack.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Haroon Bilour, an Awami National Party (ANP) leader, and 19 other people were martyred and over 60 others were wounded in a suicide attack in Yaka Toot area of Peshawar on Tuesday night.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives soon after Haroon Bilour arrived in Yaka Toot area to address a corner meeting of his party. Haroon Bilour was ANP candidate for the upcoming general elections from provincial assembly constituency PK-78.

Haroon Bilour was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. At least 12 other people, mostly ANP supporters, were also martyred in the suicide attack.



Barrister Haroon Bilour was son on Bashir Ahmed Bilour, who was also martyred in suicide attack in Qissa Khawani Bazaar in December 2012, and nephew of another ANP stalwart Ghulam Ahmed Bilour.



Haroon Bilour teenaged son Danial Bilour was among the injured. Haroon Bilour also served as District Nazim and provincial information minister in the past.



Following the blast, security forces reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Rescue staff reached the spot and shifted the bodies and wounded people to Lady Reading Hospital.

Emergency was declared at the Lady Reading Hospital, while large number of ANP workers also reached the hospital.

A spokesman of Lady Reading Hospital has confirmed the death toll from the suicide blast. He also informed that 36 wounded persons were also brought to the hospital.

The Bomb Disposal Squad has confirmed that the blast was a suicide attack. According to CCPO Peshawar, nearly eight to ten kilogrammes of explosive material were used in the blast.
