Senate: Bill to ban appointing ineligible person as party head approved
More trouble heading towards Nawaz Sharif, Opposition approved amended election bill 2017 in Senate
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senate passed the amendment of prohibiting a disqualified person to chair political party in Election Reforms Bill 2017.
Voting was held in the senate today to decide whether the election bill will allow a disqualified person to hold party chairmanship or not. 49 votes were cast in favor of the ban due to opposition’s majority while 18 votes were given against the prohibition.
It should be mentioned that the amendment in the Election Reforms Bill 2017 cannot become part of the constitution unless it is passed in the National Assembly within the next 90 days and authorisation signature from the president.
