Kulbhushan case: Justice Tassaduq nominated as ad hoc judge in ICJ

Justice Jillani previously served as Supreme Court Chief Justice for several months

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government of Pakistan has nominated Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani as ad hoc judge in International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakariya has told that he notified ICJ about the development recently. Justice Jillani had served as Supreme Court Chief Justice of Pakistan from 11th December 2013 to 5th July 2014.

According to Radio Pakistan, Zakariya said the procedures of the International Court of Justice allow a party to nominate a Judge Ad hoc in circumstances where there is no judge of the court that has that party s nationality and currently, there is no judge of the court that has Pakistani nationality; whereas Judge Bhandari from India sits as a judge of the court.

Meanwhile, convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav had made an appeal to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa for clemency.

He issued an apology on Thursday in which he appealed for mercy for his indulgence in terrorist activities. He asked Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa for clemency. President Mamnoon Hussain and COAS Bajwa hold the right to acquit him of his charges.
