(Web Desk) – The longlist for the coveted DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2017 was announced by feminist writer and publisher Ritu Menon in New Delhi on Thursday.

The longlist of 13 novels were announced at the Oxford Bookstore in New Delhi which includes seven Indian writers, three Pakistani, writers, two Sri Lankan authors and an American writer who is based in India. “It gives me enormous pleasure to announce this longlist of 13 wonderful novels for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2017,” said Menon, who is the chairperson of the five-member jury panel.

Omar Shahid’s book ‘The Party Worker’ has made it in the longlist of DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.

More than 60 entries were received for this year’s DSC Prize, which went through a jury of five members. The panel went through the entries and announced 13 novels for the longlist for their best works of fiction related to South Asian region.

The jury will announce the short list of five or six books for the prize on September 27 at London School of Economics and Political Science. The winner who will win the prize of $25,000 will be announced at the Dhaka Literary Festival on November 18.

Surina Narula, co-founder of the DSC Prize said during the announcement, “I find the longlist particularly exciting as it includes some well-known authors as well as new novelists who are making a mark on the South Asian literary canvas. The longlist of 13 novels also includes translations as well as works of authors based in different countries all of which bring in diverse perspectives and raise relevant issues.”
