The petition was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) through its counsel Usman Saeed Basra.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Tuesday reserved its decision regarding the maintainability of the petition that was filed against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s rally, and will be announced at appropriate time.

The petition was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) through its counsel Usman Saeed Basra, and was heard by Justice Amir Farooq. Usman Saeed had taken the stance that Nawaz Sharif announced to carry a protest in the form of a rally after the apex court ousted him, and it is a violation of court’s verdict.

He further stated that clashes of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and PTI workers can also occur as a result of this march. The nominated parties in the case lodged by PTI are PML-N, Nawaz Sharif, Interior Ministry, DC Islamabad and Punjab Chief Secretary.

Let it be known that Nawaz Sharif had decided to travel from Islamabad to Lahore via the famous Grand Trunk (GT) Road on Wednesday to garner support for himself and PML-N after his disqualification by the Supreme Court in Panama Papers case.

The former premier’s spokesman Asif Kirmani said Sharif’s schedule was changed at the “eleventh hour”. Initially, he was supposed to travel to Lahore via motorway on Sunday, but PML-N lawmakers persuaded him to travel via the GT Road. Security concerns resulted in the travel plans being pushed to Wednesday.

As per plan, Nawaz Sharif will first reach D-Chowk from Punjab House along with his convoy. The caravan will then head towards Faizabaad through Blue Area and Zero Point. It will enter Rawalpindi via Murree Road and then head towards Lahore via the GT Road from Rawat.

During his journey, Nawaz Sharif will also visit Data Darbar in Lahore.

During his meeting with the party representatives in Islamabad on Sunday, the former prime minister said that the PML-N in no way is in favour of clash with institutions.

He said the ruling PML-N was targeted in the name of accountability.

Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court on July 28 in connection with the Panama Papers leaks scandal. Immediately after the court’s ruling, he and his family vacated the prime minister’s official residence in Islamabad and travelled to Murree, where he received a warm reception from party supporters and workers.
