PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) water filtration plant project worth 2.5 billion rupees that was started by government of former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf could not be completed even after nine years.
The project was initiated in 2008 to provide clean water to people of KP. It has been disclosed that the private company that was given contract of this project vanished after taking the advance money of one billion rupees.
The previous government completed its tenure of five years and did nothing regarding corruption of this project, and current government also seems reluctant in taking any action against the culprits.
Under this project, 986 water filtration plants had to be built in the province out of which only 237 have been made in different districts.
211 plants were planned to make in Peshawar which has only eleven at the moment. These eleven plants are also not in working condition due to lack of maintenance. Expensive machinery of these plants has rusted and even taps have been stolen.
As a result of this negligence, people are still drinking polluted water which becomes a cause of 80 percent diseases.
