Panama Papers case: PM's speeches to be analysed from all angles, says Justice Khosa

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Wednesday has said that Prime Minister’s (PM) speeches would be analysed from all angles in next hearing.

A five-member larger bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed the hearing of Panama Papers case. Other judges in the bench include Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan.

Justice Khosa said that arguments presented in court and the speech delivered by the PM in parliament are different.

Justice Khosa directed the PM’s lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan to take court into confidence by clearing the confusions.

Meanwhile, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that the bench wants to know the source of Rs510 million that Hussain Nawaz gifted to his father over a period of four years.

"Why did Hussain Nawaz only give gifts to his father?" Justice Ijazul Hassan asked.

Justice Khosa asked that: "Has the father ever asked his sons where the money is coming from?. Makhdoom Ali Khan told the court that the money is made from the businesses of Sharif family.

He further remarked that apparently, it shows good intentions that details of every asset was provided in the income tax returns.

People illegally sent money abroad and later some of it was remitted back, he added.

Earlier today, PM’s lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan said that Nawaz Sharif purchased land on daughter’s name in 2011.

PM’s counsel said that Maryam Nawaz is not dependent of Nawaz Sharif. He said exchange of gifts and money between the premier and his children took place through proper channel.
