Sindh Cabinet approves draft of madrassa registration bill
The bill will be tabled in the Sindh Assembly.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – Sindh Cabinet has approved the draft of Sindh Maddaris Registration Bill today (Saturday), Dunya News reported.
The provincial cabinet meeting was headed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in Karachi.
According to the spokesman of Chief Minister House, a committee headed by Chief Minister, Advisor for Law Murtaza Wahab will review the bill within 15 days and after clearing the law it will be passed through Sindh Assembly. Religious scholars will also be taken on board in this regard.
After introduction of the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism, a process was launched under the supervision of the provincial apex committee to identify the seminaries having links with banned outfits or unclear channels of funding from inside or outside the country.
The Sindh government has identified at least 48 madrassas in the province having links with banned organizations; half of these seminaries operate in Karachi.
In a meeting of the apex committee, Inspector General Sindh Police had informed that there are as many as 9,590 seminaries reported in the province, that 6,503 of them are registered and 3,087un-registered, and that 167 have been sealed for violating law.
During the meeting today, the provincial cabinet has also approved the Sindh Transparency and right to information bill. This will be sent to the committee concerned for further improvement in it.
The cabinet also approved the amendment in voluntarily social welfare agency ordinance to monitor the performance of NGOs and welfare associations in the province and under taken the audit of their accounts.
The cabinet also approved the Sindh Arms Act bill which will be reviewed before final approval of the Assembly.
