Karachi port: Custom officials confiscate smuggled goods worth millions

Suspects were trying to smuggle the goods to South Africa

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Model Custom Collectorate of Preventives (MCCP) on Tuesday confiscated goods worth millions from Karachi port during an effort of re-smuggling. Suspects were trying to smuggle the goods to South Africa, reported Dunya News.

According to details, the goods worth twenty seven cror rupees were being re-smuggled to South Africa of fake documents when MCCP raided and ceased the goods. The goods consisted of cell phones, perfumes and other costly things which were smuggled in Pakistan from Dubai but could not be sold due to strict custom control.

Custom officials linked this raid with their previous operation in Site Industrial Area. Collector Customs Preventive Tariq Huda said that they will also take action against those who will be selling the smuggled goods. He said that the increased revenue of Custom Duties and their operations against smuggling are proof that Custom department is working hard against smuggling.

Custom officials at Karachi airport detained a man on Friday trying to smuggle $21,000 abroad.

According to details, the suspect Fahad was a passenger of Dubai bound flight. During body check on the security counter, officials recovered the currency hidden in his shoes.

The dollars were placed amidst other currency buried down in the suspect’s shoes.

Custom authorities have initiated investigation from the detainee whereas it has been revealed that in the past he had also committed many such activities and had smuggled money to other foreign countries.

Passengers are usually seen trying to carry drugs, gold or currency abroad illegally but are nabbed by the security officials during checking.
