Notice issued to Akbar Babar in PTI's case challenging ECP's order to submit party accounts details

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Thursday issued notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Akbar S. Babar in a case by PTI challenging Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order to submit party’s accounts details. Court has ordered the parties to submit their responses by Monday, reported Dunya News.

According to details, IHC’s two-member bench Justice Noor ul-Haq Qureshi and Justice Aamir Farooq heard the petition. PTI’s lawyer Anwar Mansoor pleaded that Election Commission has already published PTI’s audit accounts in its gazette. He maintained that the ECP doesn’t have the authority to inspect party’s accounts and therefore, ECP’s order is in violation of the law.

Issuing the notice to PTI leader Akbar S. Babar, the court ordered the parties to submit their responses by Monday. ECP has demanded details of party accounts and staff from PTI by December 5.

The issue was first taken up by Akbar S. Babar, who had filed a request before the ECP to check PTI s funding, claiming that the party receives funding from abroad and has donors among Jewish community and Indians as well. He also posted the news of PTI challenging the decision by ECP on his Facebook page and equated PTI s stance on the subject as  hypocrisy .
