KP govt, opposition end protest after Khawaja Asif's assurance
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and JUI refused to be a part of the protest
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and the opposition parties have ended the demonstration of protest outside the Parliament after Defense Minister Khawaja Asif ensured to meet their demands within one week.
KP Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak held talks with the government. Jamaat-t-Islami (JI) chief Surajul Haq, PTI s Shibli Faraz, Qaumi Watan Party s (QWP) Sikandar Sherpao and Awami National Party s (ANP) Ilyas Bilour were included in the negotiations party from protesters side.
While talking to the media after the meeting the Defense Minister said that the issues of KP would be solved within one week. He vowed to find a long-standing solution to the provincial problems.
Khattak said that the provincial government would hold meeting with the WAPDA authorities after two days. The reservations shown by the province have been cleared and notification would soon be issued, he added.
JI chief Sirajul Haq said that several parties participated in the protest led by the KP CM. Both the federation and the KP government have vowed to pay the pending payments.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members entered a strife with the police outside the Parliament ahead of their sit-in along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and opposition parties for provincial rights.
The KP Assembly had announced a sit-in outside the Parliament against neglecting the federal government for neglecting the provincial rights. The KP ministers and assembly members had reached the capital on May 11 by night. KP Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak will lead the sit-in.
The federal government had allowed the MPAs to stage a sit-in however irrelevant persons and personal security gaurds were barred from entering the Red Zone. Advisor to Prime Minister (PM) Ameer Muqam had contacted KP CM to negotiate and cancel the sit-in but the parties failed to reach a consensus then.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) refused to be a part of the protest.
Spokesperson for Interior Ministry had said that the irrelevant people and security guards would not be allowed to enter Red Zone.
A meeting header by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan discussed security situation inside the Red Zone in detail. The meeting decided to allow the KP MPAs to hold protest. It was also clarified in the meeting that strong action will be taken against anyone trying to create a law and order situation.
According to Spokesperson for Interior Ministry, the media decided to ban entry of the irrelevant people and security guards inside Red Zone.
